AP Biology: E Block
Instructor: Ms. Fleming
AP Biology is a demanding course, equivalent to an introductory college biology course. This course is designed to be a second year course, taken only after the successful completion of a first year biology course. This course is meant to deepen your understanding of the unifying principles of biology using the principles of inquiry to guide you through. Content will be covered in more depth than sophomore year biology and greater expectations will be placed on being able to interpret and analyze information. In addition, a significant amount of studying must be completed at home to allow for discussion, inquiry, and labs during class. Students will spend 25% of the overall class time in the lab performing thirteen required inquiry based labs in addition to others. AP biology aims to provide students with a conceptual framework, factual knowledge surrounding four “Big Ideas”, and analytical skills necessary to deal with the rapidly changing science of biology. This course will prepare you to take the Advanced Placement exam in May.
